24 hours in LA

We said "Ta-ta" to Tatarstan as we flew to Los Angeles [Los-Angeles-travel-guide-12789] via Samara, Frankfurt and London. In London we met up with Eric and Catherine whom we are taking home on Kim's Air New Zealand "staff" tickets.

In London's Heathrow airport we were advised by Lufthansa that our luggage didn't make the tight connection at Frankfurt. They would forward our luggage to Auckland. We were given toiletry packs and after some insistence, monetary compensation ... they had asked us to collect the compensation from their office in Auckland which I thought had been shut down.

While swanning around in LA, we received a phone call from Air New Zealand (acting as Lufthansa's agent) advising that our luggage had arrived (way before us!). They offered to send it home by taxi but we said we'd collect it in Auckland when we arrived.

There's just enough time to see a few sights in LA on our second day, before the night flight home.

This seems to be the end of another great adventure. It is good to be reminded how well-off we are ... in terms of an unpolluted environment. Also good to be reminded how ripped-off we are ... how can anyone justify $80 for a top-label shirt made in China where labour is so cheap ... we had a taxi driver rip us off by $0.20 by purposely taking us on a slight detour!
